AIN’T NO VOLVO GOT TIME FO DAT
Takes a lickin’ and keeps on.... driving.

That grill, though.

so they cheated....... sort of. they built the car, knowing where the test measures the overlap at, and built all the front inner fender reinforcement to direct the car away from a test barrier. almost as good as vw diesel cheat........

Wouldn’t it do the same in the event of a wreck?

Rims that are meant to break in collisions still impress me for some stupid reason.
![]() 12/08/2016 at 16:07 |

All manufactures know where the barrier hits...its called “studying” for the test, not cheating on it.

fyi, those bumper covers (front and back) are on global back order. S90 owners, don’t try this at home LOL

It’s really rather impressive. By deflecting off barrier, the car doesn’t have to absorb nearly as much deceleration force and I’d bet it’s much easier on the passenger than the alternative.

Yeah...or, they built the car to do well in small overlap crash tests because they wanted it to do well in an actual small overlap crash. I’m not sure how that compares at all to VW rigging their cars to perform in a controlled test environment in a way it wouldn’t in the real world.

I wish people would stop crashing Focus RSeses. Body panels on backorder being boated in from Germany...

Car designed 12 years before small overlap test was implemented?
Volvo trounces it.

I’m not sure if they still do, but volvo had agiant crash test lab in Sweden where they do a lot of their own testing before hand.

That’s damn impressive. I’d like to see another video where the offset is slightly greater to see if that design remains effective.

It would look amazing on my wall!

Except this is Volvo, who usually go beyond what federal crash testing requires and build the safest car that technology and economic considerations allow. Remember the ancient original XC90 also aced the Small Overlap Test despite being introduced long before that test became mandatory.
![]() 12/08/2016 at 16:29 |

The ancient XC90 already aced this test in the exact same manner. It’s a legitimate way to protect the occupants even in a real world collision. Absolutely no comparison to the VW cheat.

Well there is the moderate overlap test.

Same here, that was the first thing I noticed.

Man I wish I could afford a V90.

Uugh, That sux

yeah, i worded that rather poorly.... i was a bit impressed, with the vw cheat when it was big. they managed to cleverly side step a test that they wouldnt have passed legit...... the volvo here is impressive in that it passes the test so well, by avoiding the majority of the hit by design. its an impressive design.

without argument, incredibly impressive.

“So long, suckers!”

downright impressive solution on how to absorb an impact (dont).......is impressive.
![]() 12/08/2016 at 17:06 |
|
thats right, and they did a good job engineering it. impressive result.
![]() 12/08/2016 at 17:08 |

yeah, and its a clever way of passing that test.
![]() 12/08/2016 at 17:11 |

Those bastards. One would never think of cheating by studying.

studying cheats.......

You’re fucking with me right?

There was one test I watched where the steel wheel got pushed back into the cabin.
![]() 12/08/2016 at 19:03 |

I think that may be why they started making these wheels. The breakage acts as part of the crumple zone instead of. Added projectile.
